Silky wine, fresh and light, balanced with high acidity cutting through black berry fruits. The structure has some substance, but this is a light, aromatic wine, developing fast, already delicious, and only for medium-term aging.

Mid garnet with red rim. Notable for the oak spice still dominating the aroma, giving it a youthful spring in its step, and a leafy touch. Oak showing in chocolate on the palate. There’s enough fruit to carry that oak but it is distinctive in this line up for that oak-derived chocolate sweetness and texture and then definite acidity on the finish. Seems less integrated than some, persistent nevertheless. (JH)

Bright, dark red. Knockout nose combines redcurrant, blackberry, spices, flowers, tobacco and sexy sweet oak tones; complex and aristocratic. Then sweet, suave and seamless, with lovely inner-mouth perfume and noteworthy finesse to the flavors of blackberry, cherry and flowers. Finishes long and sweet, with noble tannins for the year. Not a big wine but one of the classiest examples of the vintage.

Chateau Margaux is known for exceptional Bordeaux with staggering consistency. Director Paul Pontallier has been at the estate for over 30 years, overseeing numerous legendary vintages. Fittingly the Chateau is one of the grandest and most imposing, nicknamed ‘the Versailles of the Medoc.’ They have always had a rich history but their current dominance began when it was purchased by the Mentzelopoulos family in 1977, bringing huge investment.
